An instrument cut from the mark
The eighteen stripes of the D are extruded straight from the logo file into eighteen raised keys, the thick blocks of the letter a touch higher than their thin lines. The top stripe is the highest note, the bottom one the lowest, all on a pentatonic scale, so any combination you play sounds right.
Marbles
The board leans at 38 degrees. Marbles are simulated in the board’s own frame with six physics steps per frame: gravity, bounces off every key, the slab and the floor, and each other. Every stripe a marble touches plays: softly as it rolls over, loud when it lands hard. Tilt the instrument and gravity turns with it.
Sound
Nothing is sampled. Each colour has its own voice, synthesised live with Web Audio: Ink is a marimba-like bar with its fourfold overtone, Magenta a two-operator FM pluck, Glass a bell made of inharmonic partials. The room is a reverb generated in the page.
Loop
Press Loop and play: four seconds are recorded from your first note, then they repeat. Keep playing to layer more on top. Press Loop again to clear it.
Keyboard
Q–O play the upper nine stripes, A–L the lower nine. Space rain, Enter loop, 1–3 colour, Backspace reset. Drag the floor to look around, scroll to zoom, double-click to recentre.
